Birth can be scary.

It is full of unknowns; will it hurt, can I actually do it, will the provider I want actually be on call when the time comes, when will it REALLY be time, how long will it actually take?

Your body goes through this process that is foreign and nothing can truly prepare you until you are really in it… I mean 18 different people can describe to you what a contraction feels like but you don’t truly understand until you experience them.

You’ll likely have a ton of questions; is it time to go to the hospital, this hurts … is there something that will make it go away, what do you mean I am not far enough along to be admitted… my plan was the epidural, I need it now.

You’re under the impression your doctor or nurse will be there to support you, help you, offer suggestions but you find you’re left in your room to figure out this labor thing on your own.

So, what if I told you it doesn’t have to be this way?

That’s what a doula is for.

Think of a doula as your hands-on tour guide to the birthing process. We can help you figure out when to go to your birthplace, We can help you interpret the medical jargon so you are able to make an informed decision, We’ll help make you more comfortable, we will be by your side with undivided attention, not just for 5 minutes but for hours (and sometimes even days). We are there for not just you but also your partner. We will be your birth team’s biggest cheerleader.

What do you get as a client?

With Birth with Knowledge, you get something very special… 2 doulas!! You and your partner will have access to both Lora and Chelsea from the moment you sign your contract through birth and beyond.

We will be on-call 24/7 to come to support you in labor from 38-42 weeks. When you are in labor and ready for support, one of us will come over and be by your sides.  **Don’t worry! If you were to need us outside that window, we will very likely still be available, and if for some reason we are not, we have some pretty amazing back-ups that would be able to make it to your side.

Our professional resource lists. Need assistance in an area we can’t help you with, don’t worry we’ve got a list for that; photographers, lactation consultants, placenta encapsulation, prenatal yoga, chiropractors, acupuncturist, and so much more.

Access to our lending library; books, audiobooks, and DVDs.

Access to us for questions, answers, and support as soon as your contract is signed until your baby is born and beyond. If you’ve got a question, we likely have an answer, and if we don’t, we likely know where to find an answer for you. Get home from an appointment with your provider and you’ve forgotten everything they told you about an upcoming test, ask. Weighing the pros and cons of a newborn procedure, ask. You’re just worried about labor, ask. Big things or little things we are here for you to ask.

At least 1 one-on-one prenatal visit in your home. In this 2-3 hour meeting we’ll talk all the ins and outs of your birth preferences and goals. We’ll get acquainted with your home so when the time comes, we will know where to find you and where things are. When you’re in labor the last thing we want to do is interrupt your concentration with questions about where to find water and which bathroom to use.

A seat for you and your partner in our monthly get-togethers. We host a gathering every month to give you the opportunity to get to know us better, and for us to get to know you. It also gives you the opportunity to make friends and meet others with due dates around the same time. You’ll always get goodies to take home like rice socks, massage tools, or some essential oil, PLUS the knowledge to use the tools.

Once labor starts, we're all yours!

Once you think you are in labor, just let us know. We’ll talk about what is going on and how you’re feeling. Even if you’re not ready for one of us to come over we’ll be there for you over the phone. Once we decide together that it is time for one of us to join you, we’ll come. If you’re not ready to head to the birth center or hospital one of us will meet you at home first (and if you’re planning a home birth, then we are definitely coming to your house ?).

We will bring a bag full of goodies with to help aid in your comfort. Including massage tools, a Rebozo (which is a long Mexican scarf that can be used to help better position baby and aid in comfort for the birthing person), a fan, a speaker, a blow-up birth stool, and more.

We’ll be there to provide hands-on support, offer words of encouragement, to guide your partner to better support you, to run for water and snacks, to help fill a tub. We’re there in whatever capacity you need us to be, even if that is just to hold space for you. This is your birth, and we are honored to be invited in.

Once the baby is born, we’ll be around for 1 to 2 hours post-birth. We can help with initial breastfeeding support, are able to answer any questions about the birth, and are there to make sure you have what you need to get settled in as a new family. We will be back in about a week to check-in and ensure your family is getting off to the best start possible. We are still available to you by phone for any questions you may have, or for any resource suggestions you may need.

Here's What My Clients Say:

This class is a total game changer for us. I’d heard negative [birth] stories…I was scared and very on edge. Then once we started taking the class, and when we learned about interventions that I was apprehensive about… It brought us together in that [my partner] understood birth more, and I understood it more. And as soon as I went into labor, we were on. We were a team.

Class Member

Lora was my saving grace during my first pregnancy! I can’t say enough about her expertise in her birthing knowledge as well as her human compassion and wisdom. My birth was perfect in large part because of her. She will be a life-long friend for years to come!

Doula Client

We absolutely adore and appreciate Lora and all her knowledge! We're due with our first baby in October 2020 and she helped us get through educational evidence based birth classes during the pandemic! I feel more prepared now for the birthing process, what to expect and techniques we can do to help us labor as naturally as possible! Worth every penny 🙂

Evidence Based Birth® Childbirth Class Graduate

"I am so glad my partner and I took EBB with Lora. The class really prepared us for childbirth, as first-time parents, we wanted to learn all of our options from place of birth (hospital, birth center, home birth) to interventions used should there be complications. We felt so comfortable with the knowledge we gained that we switched from hospital to birth center birth at 32 weeks and felt confident with our decision because we knew what our choices consisted of. We now have a beautiful birth story because we birthed with knowledge."

Frequently Asked Questions

I’m already hiring a doula why do I need a class too?

We feel very strongly that every person giving birth should attend a childbirth education class with a partner. As your doulas, we’ll be there to support you in any decision you make but we can’t make them for you. We can’t weigh the pros and cons of interventions or inductions. We can’t be the one to decline or accept things. This is not our birth, it’s yours.

You and your baby deserve to have a knowledge base to pull from in your birthing time. It’s hard to hear something new for the first time and make an educated decision while your body is working to push a baby out. We will be there to talk decisions through with you, we’ll remind you of the pros and cons, we’ll remind you to ask more questions of your provider when you’re unsure of the next move, but we cannot make the final decisions for you.

ALSO, we are not your partner. We will not get your oxytocin flowing like your partner does. We might be able to squeeze your hips more effectively but our touch will not bring the love like theirs will. They need to know how to help keep you comfortable too. Oxytocin in the love hormone, it helped bring this baby into existence, and it’s going to help get this baby out. I’ll be there to help give your partner ideas about what to do next or stand in for them when they need a nap and a sandwich. But they should be there whispering words of encouragement in your ears while we are squeezing your hips. We will all work together as a team and we need everyone on the team on the same page.

Even if your partner is not your significant other, and they are your mom or your sister or your best friend. The person that you choose to stand by your side is going to have a strong bond with you. They are going to make you feel safe and loved and protected.

PLUS, by taking a class you’ll have a pretty good idea of what you like and don’t like before labor actually starts so no need to weed through stuff that isn’t going to work. This helps you, your partner, and us to have a better birth.

Even if you have taken a childbirth class in previous pregnancies it is still helpful to refresh and refocus. Plus, different classes offer a different perspective. Taking the time to stop and focus on this new life, to make a plan for this baby is going to make a world of difference.

How awesome would it be to have 2 highly educated people be at your fingertips to ask questions throughout your pregnancy? Well with us you get that.

We are dedicated to making sure you and your partner are listened too and supported throughout your pregnancy and birth.

When it comes to your birthing time we split an on-call schedule. Depending on the day one of us will be at your birth. You will have access to our Google calendar so you will be able to know which one of us is on call at any given time.

On some occasions, you’ll get extra lucky and have us both at your birth?

We have a few payments plan available. If you need an alternate payment plan please reach out.

Paid in full: $1200 | $1400 | $1550
2 Payments of: $620 | $720 | $795 (1st payment due at the time of signing, 2nd at 36 weeks)
3 Payments of: $420 | $486 | $536 (Split between now and 36 weeks)

If you are already attending an Evidence Based Birth® Childbirth Class through Birth with Knowledge and would like to add on doula services your class fee will be 100% credited towards the doula package of your choice.

If for some reason one of these packages doesn’t fit the needs of your family please let us know and we can customize something to work for you.
